Watch: Discussing Cybercrime with FTA

Numerous cyberattacks against the Australian government over many months in mid-2020 put industry leaders on high alert over cybercrime.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison described the attacks as "sophisticated" and suspected state actors were behind them, with China, Russia, Iran and North Korea all considered likely culprits.

In June 2020, Cyber Citadel joined Freight and Trade Alliance (FTA) for a webinar to discuss the growing threat of state-level cybercriminals. The discussion covered North Korean malware strains including Taintedscribe, Copperhedge and Pebbledash, which had been deployed in campaigns against international targets.

The webinar also examined the devastating ransomware attacks on Travelex and Toll Group, both of which suffered significant operational and financial damage. The discussion explored how Covid-19 was creating a perfect storm for cybercriminals, with the rapid shift to remote working exposing new vulnerabilities across organisations that were ill-prepared for the transition.
